My definition of 21st Century Learning
I remember life before computers, cell phones, microwaves, even television remote controls. However, the students that we are teaching in K-12 have never known life without them. They are handed iPhones and tablets at a very young age and can manipulate them quite well. They aren’t afraid to just start pushing buttons and “make” something happen. In education, there are always catch-phrases. One that many may believe is a catch-phrase is “21st Century Learning”. I don’t believe it is just another cute fad in education but is something that is here to stay. Students now have the opportunity to be global learners. They can collaborate with other students, or experts themselves, from around the world. It should be student-led, project-based, real-world application learning. Gone are the days of sitting down and working the odd problems 1-50 on a worksheet. 21st Century Learning should be more about production and skill sets.
